Free kids fishing derby

The Bay de Noc Great Lakes Sport Fishing club will host it's annual Kids Fishing Derby in Ludington Park on Sunday, July 24th. Registration starts at 10am (look for the big red club trailer,) with fishing to last from 11am to 2pm. Kids should bring their own bait and tackle (rods will be provided for those that don't have one.) Lots of fun and tons of prizes for the kids. See you there.

Did a little snooping around the harbor yesterday afternoon. Caught a 17 inch largemouth bass at the harbor mouth on a plastic worm. That one could have been easily caught by somebody fishing from shore. The club trailer is located near the L dock. I caught several perch, sunfish, and rockbass on a small jig tipped with a piece of worm, fishing close to the docks. The kids should do alright as long as the weather holds.

Did they have a good turnout Sunday? My wife and kids were out of town, otherwise we would have definitely been there. I can't say enough good things about this great program the Fishing Club puts on.

I wasn't able to make it to help out, but got this email from club president Kelly King -

the kids tournament went very well in escanaba. lots of helpers and the kids seemed to have fun. thank you to all that helped out, Jim bonifas, frank, don shirly, susie and kyle king, tim kobasic. we had 40 kids tim will be putting them on his radio show this satuday and i'll be sending him photos for the paper. thanks again to all the helpers.
