Curado... Citica.... Crucis... Castiac.... Tranx???? WTH??

Bogus product! No way Shimano builds a casting reel and gives it a name that starts with a "T".

Bet it comes with a Slim Whitman album too.

Well, all I can say is, I'm glad I haven't gotten a trinidad yet. Out in time for the christmas list...? I'm guessing not, as this will be a next spring deal.

Tim,
All the saltwater (conventional) reels begin with T, as in Trinidad, Tekota, Torsa, Torium, etc. So, apparently Shimano expects this reel to appeal to that market more than us fresh H20 guys.

Think "POS" was already taken. Got a few on order for you know who you are. Pretty much impossible to get right now, and don't know the retail cost. Only dealer cost. Based on dealer cost, I would think they will be approaching the $500 mark.

Some comments on the web:

Shimano had a trio of bigwigs in the area showing the Tranx to tackle shops, and I had the opportunity to cast the reel a few times. Very nice, very smooth, very powerful.

The reel has the height of a "standard" baitcaster like Shimano's CT-400B or other similar reels. However, its housing extends forward and since I palm the reel, my thumb actually pointed almost parallel with the rod, rather than wrapping around the front of the reel housing. This seemed awkward the first few casts but became more comfortable with time.

MSRP is $499. I asked what they expected the reel to sell for in stores, and all three replied simultaneously "$499."
