I was looking at my calender from last year and I was out for the first time on Dec 17 caught 8 eyes 2 were keepers. Think It might be a little later this year the 17th is Sat. and pretty sure we will not have ice. Thats ok because I am running late anyways.

Yeah, I got out the first time on the 15th last year - south of Gladstone. We got really spoiled with good, early ice, last year. We'll be lucky to get out on the bay by new year, at the rate things are going. Thankfully the inland lakes already have 6 to 8 inches of ice. It looks like my first ice trip this winter will be inland, somewhere.

Any chance of getting a boat in the water over there this weekend?

I haven't checked, but the docks at the Escanaba harbor, (the last open access,) were supposed to be pulled on the 12th.

So by tomorrow AM, do you think we could get a boat in there?

It's open water from the launch, out to the lake. The docks have been pulled, and one is at an angle, blocking the ramp. You could probably wrap a tow rope around the end of that dock, and pull it out of the way enough to get a boat in, (guys have done it before.) You'd have to beach your boat in the sand on the right hand side of the ramp to get in.

Any suggestions on where to fish?
