HARRISBURG, PA – The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) is reminding anglers and boaters who use Franklin County’s Letterkenny Reservoir that new rules prohibit not only the use of gas engines but also the possession of gas engines, even if they are not in use.
The reservoir is located in Lurgan and Letterkenny townships, Franklin County, and is owned by the Letterkenny Industrial Development Authority and the Franklin County General Authority. The PFBC has a public use agreement with the two groups that allows anglers and boaters to use the facility. The agreement was recently renewed and contains the new restrictions.
“In the past, boaters could attach an electric motor to the boat transom and leave the gas engine turned off,” said Anthony Quarracino Jr., PFBC waterways conservation officer responsible for the county. “Under the new rules, they cannot have a gas engine on a boat at all, even if the engine is out of the water and not being used.”
WCO Quarracino said the rules also apply to the use of augers for ice fishing. “Anglers can continue to use the reservoir for ice fishing, but they must use a manual auger to drill through the ice,” he said.
