Fish Crib construction will take place this year at 8:30 am on Friday, March 2nd, 2012 at the Ed and Kathy Schmidt property, 3020 N Hiawatha Rd, next to the former Hiawatha Resort just past Donners Bay Resort. Thirteen cords of tamarack logs and cinder block are presently placed at the site. The cribs will be placed in and just outside of the Lake Bastine area of the TFF. This is a joint effort between the Turtle-Flambeau Flowage/Trude Lake Property Owners Association, Turtle-Flambeau Flowage Association and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Volunteers are needed throughout the day with lifting and binding logs, inserting brush in the cribs and positioning the cribs on the ice. Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to come to contribute with the physical labor and/or moral support. There is a need for snowmbiles and ATVs with ratchet straps and tow ropes. This is also a great learning opportunity as DNR biologists will be on hand to answer questions about the cribs, along with the TFF fishery, wildlife, forests, native plants, etc.
This is your chance to not only give back to the Turtle-Flambeau Flowage, but also meet others that have the same love for Wisconsin's Scenic Wilderness Waters Area. Questions may be directed to Teri Meyer at the Mercer DNR office at 715-476-2240.
