Area lakes today have ice that is dark and pulling away from the shores. Seeing ice go off the lakes in March for us would be a first. I expect that to happen this year.
Living in the Bemidji area requires a person to not over react to weather conditions. It’s not like we have 500 or 1,000 years of results to study. I recall 2008, when we had an 18 inch snowfall on April 6th and another 18 inch snowfall on April 20th. We could still get snow this April and maybe even sub zero temperatures but that seems unlikely. We’ve had a very mild winter.
Please look at our revised Oak Haven Facebook page. We have arranged groups of pictures by fish species. See hundreds of pictures of Crappies, Walleye, Muskie & Pike, Sunfish, Largemouth Bass and Perch. Be sure to scroll down. Also please look at Oak Haven Outdoor Wonderland to see pictures of loons, baby loons, eagles, eagle nests, ducks and ducklings, geese and goslings, river otters, beavers, humming birds, orioles, robins, pileated woodpeckers, flowers including lady slippers, ferns, sunsets, fall colors, painted turtles, snapping turtles, frogs, squirrels, chipmunks and a lot more.
Fishing Tip – Anglers coming to northern Minnesota in the spring, summer or fall should bring clothing for hot weather, bring clothing for cold weather, and always take your rain gear with you in the boat no matter the forecast. If you get splashed on when boating across the lake, you’ll often wish you had your rain gear on.
Enjoy friendly people at a clean resort. Quiet nights means the sounds of nature.
