Flaptail?

Hey Ty,

Sorry if I missed this earlier, but are you making Flaptails now? If so, how could I go about getting one? I can't make it to any musky shows being that I live in Florida.

I sold all of them at the Minnesota show on Friday. Luke Ronnestrand did a seminar and spoke about them. Right after the seminar they all sold. I should have brought a couple hundred but who would have known.

I sold my tackle company so now I wont be making them anymore. Drifter Tackle will be making them. I would guess it will be a few months before they are available.

I managed to get one off of a Very generous guy on MF! Any tips on fishing them?

Slow to medium speed will be the best but don't be affraid to speed it up if a fish follows.

Hi Ty,

I noticed the front hook doesn't have a split ring and I was thinking that it will very soon need replacing should I add a split ring or try to open the screw eye to replace it?

David, I'd just leave it as is. It wont hurt the action or hookup ratio at all. If for some reason the hook gets twisted up in the net or gets rusty then I'd just put a new screw eye in with the same rigging(no split ring).

Musky3 you should save that Cisco Kid. you don't see many that color. Then again they don't catch many if you leave them in the garage.

Just sharpen the hook. Don't worry about T-ing the hook. It will work as is. You can bring a spare hook and screw eye if you want. Personally, I don't have any in the boat with me all year. I kind of figure I can unhook 99 percent of the topwater fish that are hooked without cutting hooks so I don't bother bringing spare screw eyes.
