Anyone try smoking sheephead?

I hate to say it, but here they come... I boated 7 sh!*heads before and during sunset last night:( Has anyone ever tried smoking these?... or are they just an all around useless fish

The seagulls love them! Last year about this time we actually cooked one to try. First of all, they were a bugger to fillet. The texture wasn't bad, but there was no taste to it. Maybe smoking would flavor them some. Let us know if you try it.

I've smoked them with the same recipie I use for suckers or carp. In my opinion they are as good as suckers but with fewer bones. I've also deep fryed them in beer batter and thought they were pretty good,not perch by any means but pretty decent. They are fun to catch and there's lots of days any damn bite is welcome. I think they eat zebra musscels so I don't think it hurts to throw them back for someone else to catch if there not considered table fare.
