The Central Ohio Chapter held an outing on Alum Creek Lake June 2-3, 2012.
Anglers fought some wind (and skiers, tubers, sailboats, cigarette boats, and a guy on a jetski in a shark suit) but for the most part the weather was good for two nice days on the water. The club was served a BBQ shore lunch on Saturday prepared and served by the Boy Scouts of Troop 387. All totaled there were 38 members who fished the outing, with a number of others and some families who came for the relaxing shore lunch event.
The 38 anglers were also treated to some good fishing with some real brutes making it into the nets. 23 Legal fish total.
The 'Brute' List:
Brian Culbertson, 48.5"
Brady Bland, 48"
Kevin Short, 47.5"
Steve Ault, 47" and 39"
Larry Rutledge, 46"
Tom Watson, 45.75"
Other Fish Caught:
Rob VanGorder, 37", 40", 37" and 40"
Allison Sisson (youth), 39" and 36"
Bob Smart, 39"
Brian Vinson, 39"
Tony Crisp, 38.5"
Rory VanGorder (youth), 38"
Jack Worline, 37.5" and 36.5"
Jarrod Bailes, 37.5"
Cliff Honeycutt, 35"
John Oldfield, 35"
George Smart, 32"
If there was a pattern to the weekend, it was that "there was no pattern". Fish were caught deep and shallow. Tight to structure and out over open water. Fish were caught on everything from the smallest Alleycat crank baits, to Rapala Minnowbaits, to trolled and casted spinner baits, to Tuff Shads/Lightning Shads/Slab Shads, to the biggest Grandma's and Legend Perchbaits, and more.
This was a come and go as you please all weekend outing, which made a great opportunity for a good number of our youth members to get some time on the water without pounding it all day. It also means we may have missed getting a report from someone who landed a fish before everyone pulled out today, so please let us know if we did.
Thanks to everyone who came out to make this a great weekend. Please send in some Pics!
Next Meeting is at Alum Creek Marina Ramp, 6 PM on June 12th, and don't forget our Nite Bite Outing on June 15th from 6 PM to Midnight.
