Water temperatures have moved to the mid-70's and fish have responded. Walleye are responding to jigs and bottom bouncer presentations with depths ranging from 18 to 32 feet. As expected,
action is best in the mornings and evenings as skies have remained clear with daytime air temps in the mid-80's. Larger fish have been reported with 27 and 28 inchers as well as decent numbers of
in the lower 20's. Classic Lake of the Woods jig colors are working - gold, hot pink, orange and chartreuse. Nightcrawlers, leeches and plastics are producing, including 4-inch curl-tail worms on one-eighth and quarter-ounce jigs. Plastics in black, pumpkinseed and watermelon are suggested.
Smallmouth bass are excellent during the evening hours with a variety of crankbaits in crayfish patterns, plastics and live bait presentations taking bronzebacks. They are still relating to shoreline structures, although a bit deeper. Clearly the drop-off breaks are everything to success. Topwaters and jerkbaits are yet another way to enjoy success.
Northern pike are still available on weedlines but rocks continue to develop. Most rock humps have a quality fish or two on them that often harass walleye anglers by taking a hooked walleye or yellow perch. Spinnerbaits, in-line spinners, buzzbaits and spoons are yielding fish. Larger fish are moving deeper seeking cooler water but remain on the breaks. Yellow perch are spotty and when found are mixed in with walleye. Some larger individuals are being taken and most anglers are anxious to catch them.
Muskie are being seen following lures but most camp guests are focused on walleye, bass and pike. Weedlines are still holding fish.

Russ -- Thanks for the updates. I'll be up in a few weeks, and every bit of info is greatly appreciated as my anticipation of the trip approaches fevered pitch. Can't wait to escape the heat down here, and soak in all that LOTW has to offer. Hopefully you'll be in camp the week we are. If so, see you then. Dave B
