sorry about the lack of recent reports, been swamped, thanks to all you who have contributed past couple weeks.
water temps are staying stable at mid 70's,surface may go up a bit on hot flat days, goes down a couple on windy days or with cooler nites.
day time air temps have avged from high 70's to low 90's,this week low-mid 80's.
getting just enough rain mostly at nite here and there to keep off fire bans in immediate area and water levels at same levels but need some more soon again.
walleye fishing has been excellent and consistant, tons of 15-17" eaters and lots of slot fish and over now showing up again.
guides are avging 50-100 fish days,1 boat yesterday had 23 fish over 26" but none over 30,though there have been some 29-31" fish boated past couple weeks.
humps, reefs, and deep points have been most consistant pattern at anywhere from 18-30' with 24-28' being an avg depth most days.pretty much all sections of the lake and midlake basin structures producing.
jigs and crawlers and lindy rigs and minnows been standard presentations. on big structures or flats off structures spinner rigs and crawlers also working.
the 7-9;30 pm suspended bite has been very strong past 2 weeks.if you're doing it right it's hard to keep 4 baits in the water at the same time. shallow running 4-6" yozuri's,reef runners, rattl'n roghes in silvers and pearls 50-80' back off boards 2-2.5mph.
if you want pike runn deeper divers down 18' along with the shallow baits.
gilberts stretch, portage bay,and viking areas over 60-80' of water.
muskies have been a bit squirrly with alot of follows and nippers but fish being boated daily mostly 42-51.5" stuff, lots of 4'ers,some jumbos on and off recently. blades 8's,9's,and 10's,bulldawgs especially double dawgs, depth raiders, and minnow baits. both weeds and rocks, some days rocks much better, some days weeds much better, some days a mix. got to fish it all to see.
fish are coming from thickest patches of weeds 6-13' deep, off edges of reef and rock stuctures, and also straight up from depths while off fast breaking structures.also been getting reports recently of 50"+ fish following hooked walleyes up off deep reefs so thats an option to explore. casting out from shallower tops to deep or over tops of deep reefs with a countdown bait like a dawg or countdown raider, jigging bondys or fuzzys, or trolling deep divers.
big trout biting and so far little or no apparent mortality. lots of 28" up to 38" fish 16-25#+. deepest holes 65-90'.
as water cools down a bit with approaching longer nites and some cooler weather some of the best bites will be coming up end of aug through sept and early oct.
we've got a few opening aug 18 on so give us a call if you are thinking of a trip,we'll take good care of you.
