Hi everyone,
Guided Chris and John for a half day yesterday afternoon. Starting out under cold front conditions with a high blue sky and cooler air temps with a modest Southwest wind, we had to work hard again for all the fish we caught. There was often a lot of slack time between bites, but moving a lot , we were able to find 8 walleyes keeping just 1, some LGM bass,SM bass, perch, bluegills, and eventually a few crappies. Usually no more then 1 or 2 fish in any spot, so moving a lot was the order of the day.
We used minnows, leeches and crawlers on bobber rigs and jigging and caught fish on every kind of bait. The leeches and minnows produced more fish, but the crawlers did catch a few. That's important now because leeches are now done for the year. I have about a eighth of a # left and when they are gone, then it'll be minnow and crawler time.
Caught fish on the woody humps but also found fish including half the walleyes in weeds. Even though they were small yesterday, it is a good sign that a weed bite will happen soon. If so, then it'll be crank baits and weight forward sapinner time in the weeds. If the walleyes aren't being found out deep, then head for the weeds. That pattern will only last until the weeds start dyeing off, so take advantage of it while we can. Good luck fishing everyone.
