Fireside Lodge Fishing Report 8/4 to 8/11 2012 Part 1
18283
This week’s weather was as near perfect as any week could get. Daytime temperatures were in the 70’s and lows in the low 50’s. Rain, which we need to maintain water levels, was very scarce. With the sun setting earlier every day along with the cool nights & early mornings you could feel that the fall season is just around the corner.
18284
Long time guests, since 2002, father & sons Tim, Joe, & Adam Bergen with cousin Tom Komenda from Orland Park & Hickory Hills, IL returned. DOA they had a number of Muskie follows and landed 2, Tim had a 28” & Joe caught a nice 32”Musky, GREAT Start.
18285
2nd day had this group catching over 20 fish, mostly Northern Pike and Tim K came up with the big catch of the day landing a GIGANTIC 20” Trophy Master Anglers Award Smallmouth Bass. WOW what a GREAT catch by Tim. Musky fishing can be tough sometimes but always brings about new happenings. On this their 3rd day while Musky hunting several 20-32” Pike were caught, Tim K had a Muskie hooked that jumped completely out of the water while spitting his lure out, & on another Musky follow, while doing the figure 8, he accidentally hooked the Musky in the tail. Well, a good battle took place, which Mr. Musky won. Remember Tim just lost the battle no the war. While fishing Tim & son Adam had a HUGE follow that came back a second time and then a 2nd fish, a Musky, also followed in at the same time. Both fish just sat by the boat for such a long time that Tim was able to pick up 3 different rods / lures to do figures 8’s, but to no avail. Frustrating but at the same time Fabulous. On a high note Adam caught a HUGE 19.5” Master Anglers Award Smallmouth Bass.
18286
Fourth & final day ended their trip with a BANG, as they caught several big Northern Pike, Joe caught his first ever Master Anglers Award fish by landing a very large 18.5” Smallmouth Bass, Tim K caught a very big heavy 37” Tiger Musky, & Adam landed a dandy 36-inch Muskie which was in & out of the net on the first try, but Adam kept tension on the fish & the second try was successful. In addition to this Adam landed a gigantic 21” Master Anglers Award Trophy Smallmouth Bass, This is the second year in a row Adam caught a 21” Smallie. All left having had a FABULOUS time & said they will return in 2013.
18287
First time guests Jim & Laurel Brown from LaPorte, IN were excited to arrive. 1st day ever on our waters they did a lot of exploring and caught some nice Northern Pike. Second day was a venture toward the Twin Falls area. They truly enjoyed the Falls having a lunchtime break there, and caught some fish throughout the day. On their third and final day the weather was gorgeous, 72 and sunny, which they thoroughly enjoyed while having there best day fishing, catching Northern Pike & Smallmouth Bass. Laurel catch her biggest Smallie at 16.5-inches. They also found a wonderful lunch spot on higher ground where they just sat for a while enjoying the mixture of sun & refreshing breeze off the sparkly water. Both had a very nice 3-day stay and thanks for choosing us.
18288
Returning for their 6th consecutive year was Don, Audrey, and son Matt Holesinger from Fulton & Roscoe, IL. DOA they caught Smallmouth right away with Don setting the bar landing a 17.5”er. 1st day they caught 18 Smallmouth Bass with Matt landing the largest at 17”. This was considered a slower day by their Fireside Lodge standards which are pretty high, as they usually catch 30-60 Smallmouth every day.
18289
Second day they portaged to a Smallmouth Bass Lake to try something different & had a real good day catching 18 Smallmouth Bass with all being 15” or larger and Audrey came up with the largest fish so far landing a HUGE 19” Master Anglers Award Trophy Smallmouth & almost lost her fishing rod in the process. As she was fighting off some boat flies she laid her rod down & the Bass hit at that moment which had Don almost going in the lake after the rod. He just did grab onto it and handed it off to Audrey who caught the trophy bass. I think Don deserves some type of assist?? He was re-paid by catching his own Trophy measuring 18.5”. “GREAT DAY”! 3rd day was a super day fishing & catching as the caught 16 Northern Pike and 20 Smallmouth Bass. All the Smallmouth Bass were big, over 15”, & Don caught one Trophy at 19”, Matt landed four trophies, 1-18”, 2-18.5” & 1-19”. All the Smallies were caught on Tubes. FABULOSU DAY!!!! 4th & final day they enjoyed the terrific 72-degree temps while catching 21 Smallmouth Bass. All had a wonderful fishing trip making another set of family memories & said they will be returning in 2013.
18290
Fishing at Fireside Lodge for their 1st time were Glen Brand & Tony Meo from Streamwood & Schaumberg, IL. 1st day they had a ball learning the waters and catching some Northern Pike. 2nd day had these two portaging for to a Northern Pike lake having a ball walking the trail and fishing all alone on a secluded wilderness lake. They caught some Pike & enjoyed the whole event. 3rd day they had good action catching both Smallmouth Bass and Northern Pike, and felt like they were really getting to know the lake. 4th, 5th and 6th days they adventured into 3 different lakes not only enjoying the fishing but the wilderness aspect of traveling through a creek for an hour, and portaging to another lake with anticipation of what awaited them on the other side, to visiting our Little Vermilion natural wonder, Twin Falls. Fishing is the reason they came, but making Fireside Lodge Friends was the big bonus for these two as they befriended other guests from TN, VA, NC, WI, MI, & IL. That’s the Fireside Lodge magic we sometime talk about as our guests usually share information & end up leaving making new friendships. Glen & Tony had a FABULOUS time with us at Fireside Lodge as we did enjoying their company.
18291
Mark & Marisela Hazzard from Sanford, NC were making there first trip as a couple to Fireside Lodge. Mark was first introduced to Fireside Lodge by his Uncle, a 22-year guest, Frank Hazzard from Arlington, TX. We were thrilled to see Mark back at Fireside Lodge with his wife Mari. 1st full day on the water Mari caught her first Northern Pike ever, along with several others, and they caught some Smallmouth Bass. 2nd day had them catching 7 Smallies and several Northern Pike, with Mari again being the Pike Queen. 3rd day was very good as they took a boat ride through a long creek seeing many of nature’s wonders including a huge Bull Moose. They also caught 22 fish 8 Northern Pike, Mark caught a Musky and both caught 13 nice Smallmouth Bass with mark landing 2 Master Anglers Award Smallies both measuring 19”. 4th day was a “GREAT DAY” expressed by Mari. They caught 32 Smallmouth Bass, Mari catching the largest at 17” plus 3 Northern Pike, with Mari also landing the largest, a 31”er. I’d say Mari had a great day being this is the first time ever fishing in the Canadian Wilderness. 5th & final day Mari said they had a wonderful time enjoying the beautiful 75 degree temperatures with a light breeze as they caught some Smallmouth Bass, & Mari caught 6 Northern Pike herself including a beauty, very heavy 31-incher. Both had a “FABULOUS” stay and said they will return after their next deployment with the US Air Force is over. We specially thank them for their service and helping secure freedom & security in the US and choosing Fireside Lodge to make some special memories together.
