The Bait Shop Guy

Perch have been biting pretty good in the Escanaba harbor the last few days. Good enough that we got wiped out of perch minnows at the shop, (we'll be stocked up again on Friday morning.) Monday they were biting as fast as you could get a line in the water. You have to sort through plenty of small fish, (2 or 3 throwbacks for every keeper,) but you'll end up with enough fish for a meal or two. No need for a boat, just fish off the docks.
Perch rigs with both minnows and worms worked well Monday and Tuesday. Bite was good enough that you could only keep one line in the water. Bite was slower Wednesday. Had to switch to slip bobbers and let them have the bait longer before setting the hook. Just goes to show that when you think you have them figured out, they throw you a curve ball. You have to be ready to adapt if you want to be successful.
