We were out last night for a few hours. Ice was a solid 5 1/2" on this particular lake. We fished in 5-8 feet of water. We had over a dozen flags go up. we caught a few nice perch early and then we managed to get into some walleye action. The walleye seemed to be hitting light. We had several fish drop the bait after taking out several yards of line. You have to remember on early ice to approach tip-ups slowly. Any movement and noise can make finicky fish drop baits. We are expecting lows in the single digits for the next week or so. I would expect to see the ice condition improve greatly this next week. It is still early ice so use caution when on the ice.
