The Bait Shop Guy

Fished off the Gladstone harbor the last two nights. Pretty easy getting around with the truck, and seeing lots of quads and sleds getting around with no problems. Still marking good numbers of fish, with some signs of an improving bite. Sunday night I marked about two dozen fish in an hour and a half of fishing. Only landed two undersized fish, but had 5 or 6 other strikes from better fish that didn't hook up. Still baffled as to how they can hit a bait like a Jigging Rap, and not get stuck!?! They would chase a jig all over the place, but just wouldn't seal the deal at the last second.
Tonight, they didn't show up until later in the evening. The graph showed a pretty steady stream of fish between 6:30 and 7. I had a brief flurry of activity around 6:40, and ended the evening landing three fish - 21", 17", and one shorty. Again, had 4 or 5 fish smack the jig and not hook up. Everything was on the #9 Glow Hot Perch Rap tonight, and a #2 Glow Perch Shiver Minnow the night before.
Hopefully the warming weather in the coming week will turn all those chasers and short strikers into biters and fish dinners!
