4/26 The netting crew fished the nets this morning with a strong S.W. wind blowing towards the nets. They managed 5 females and enough males to get the job done. This is all we needed to get the hatchery full of eggs. There will be no more egg collecting for this season. We got our hatchery full in 4 “net nights” this year, down from 8 “net nights” last year, and obtained almost twice the eggs as last season. We have 6,078,000 eggs incubating as of April 26th. Last year 59% of our eggs hatched into fry...we will see how they do this year, but the majority of the jars look pretty well.

4/25 The cold front we experienced the last couple of days slowed down the walleye spawning activity as expected and as we experienced last season. We were able to collect eggs from 3 large females largest 14Lbs. We fertilize the eggs with 2 males on 2 of the batches and 3 on one batch. We ended up filling one jar with 60 oz. and putting another 42 oz. in another, which are jars #10 and #11. 6 females were turned loose at the nets as they were checked and found to have unripe eggs.

4/23verything is fine at the hatchery. Eggs had the normal amount of fertilization success....similar to last year so far. All equipment running fine.
