While most Bemidji and Cass Lake area bait shacks had little or no shiners available for guests on opening day, our sources came through with two gallons of Golden Shiners. Our guests endured 30-40 mph winds and cold fingers, but Walleyes were being landed here as open water is avaialble. The largest Walleye landed May 11th by one of our guests was 23 1/2 inches, by Chris Frank of Maple Grove, MN. Our guests also landed a 20 3/4, 20 and 19 inchers, plus smaller Walleyes. While many lakes were still frozen, Oak Haven's unique location proved to be special again. The spawn is just getting underway and we still have a two bedroom cabin available for May 18-25.
