Fishing for coho salmon remains very good as we move through the end of May. Weather stability remains key to keeping the fish concentrated but we seem to have a healthy quantity near Waukegan at the moment.
With this spring being about 2-3 weeks behind and cold water and bait abundant, I think we could have good catches of coho well into June. About half of the coho we are catching are running larger than normal too.
At the same time, many more king salmon have started to arrive in our waters. We recently began catching several kings each and every time out and in these regards we plan to orient more portions of our rod spread in the direction of catching kings so we can enhance are already good hauls of coho. This will sometimes depend on whether we are fishing waters that hold both coho and kings. The kings we are catching are very healthy looking fish and our catches of them should rise throughout June and the rest of the summer. We are catching some steelhead too and depending on where we are fishing, we will likely see their numbers increase too.
As always, all rates include all fish cleaning, bagging and icing and we have several tasty recipes to pass along to you after you take your catch home.
One common question I get is 'how far in advance do you need to make a reservation?' The answer is to make the
reservation as soon as you and your group have settle on a date. The sooner the better especially
if you want to come on a weekend. Summer and fall dates for 2013 are being reserved now.
Thanks for reading and attached are photos of some recent catches.
