Finally got out to do some perch fishing Friday night with my dad. Figured all the south wind we've been having lately should have them stacked along the breakline on the south side of Gladstone. We marked lots of fish from the harbor, to the tip of Saunder's point. Better numbers seemed to be off the breakline, in 31 to 32 feet of water. Anchored up, but all we caught were suckers and a few dink perch. After a while, we decided to set up on the breakline, hoping the fish sitting on the slope of the drop-off would be feeding more actively. Set up in 23 to 25 FOW and started catching perch instantly on perch rigs tipped with wigglers. They were mostly small fish, but then you'd have a school of big ones move through, and you'd land 4 or 5 nice jumbos in a row. We boated around 100 perch, keeping a dozen.
If you want to go and catch a mess of fish for some kids, it's as good a spot as any, right now.
