Friday greeted my 2 clients and I with fairly strong SE winds and the threat of storms predicted for late day. Starting out working a couple of shallow wind blown shorelines with Reeves weedless jigs tipped with either mud minnows or fatheads produced not even a bite. We then moved to deeper water, 12 to 16 foot depths in and around river channels and here we found action. Tried a good number of areas like this and came up with walleye and some nice jumbo perch in most spots. As the day progressed and the storms got closer, we tried an area with wood and rock that came out of 8 foot and topped off at 4 foot, here we found a very good walleye bite as they filling up before the storm hit, had to leave the water early to avoid the lightning, made it back to the landing just as the clouds opened up with a down pour of rain and 1 inch size hail along with thunder and lightning. Later in the day we had some awful wind blow threw the area knocking down hundreds of trees and power lines leaving most of the Mercer area with out power till 1:30 pm the next day.
No scheduled trips for a few days so it's time to get out there and try some different areas.
