A recent trio to Lake Gogebic has me hooked slip bobers. What a fun way to catch walleyes. I have read around online and see it works all over, im just curious if any one uses them in the bay for anything other than perch and to what success.

Sucker minnows or redtail chubs fished under a slip bobber is a great way to fish for pike. My biggest one last year was a 40 incher, caught on a slip bobber rig with a redtail. We used to have some customers that did well on smallmouth with leeches under a sip bobber at the mouth of the Cedar River.

Thanks for the info chris, that does sound fun. Are the leaches still goin strong? They were spawning already up north.

If I remember right, leeches die after they spawn. I'm not sure at what temp they spawn at, but as the water warms, they become scarce. Leeches trapped early in the spring, and kept cold, will last much longer. With the late spring we had, we are still able to get good leeches at the baitshop. In fact, the ones we've been getting lately have been about the biggest leeches I've ever seen. They're almost TOO big to use for bait!
