Orders Issued for Lakes Monona, Waubesa as Result of Record Rains

Dane County Executive Joe Parisi and Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney have signed a declaration officially calling for a Slow/No Wake Order be issued for Lake Monona, including Squaw Bay, and Lake Waubesa. The County Board Chair has expressed his support for the declaration as well.

The orders are in effect for the entire surfaces of the lakes.

Recent flooding rains have increased lake levels and the order is being issued in part due to the potential for additional rainfall over the next 24 hours.

Under Slow/No Wake, boats must move as slowly as possible while still maintaining steering control and produce no wake. The order is in effect as of this morning and will be in effect until at least Monday, July 1st.

Violators may be subject to citation and fine by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office, along with the County Department of Land and Water Resources, will be posting signs informing lake users about the Slow/No Wake Order.
