Haven't been fishing during the recent hot spell, but since it ended, I've been out and the fishing has been pretty good. For the most part, the walleye have been taken from 9 to 14 foot depths over and around submerged wood, a very slow retrieve, or just plain vertical jigging with jig and crawler or medium fatheads have been working the best. Not only walleyes, but smallies, crappies and jumbo perch have been relating to these same spots. On our half day trip today, my 3 clients and I started out on a spot (10 ft deep)that was protected from a strong north wind and found the majority of our walleye along with a big smallie that my young client will have mounted, 19 plus inches raised this young boys eyebrows to the point where he is now addicted to fishing forever, one of the major rewards of being a fishing guide, turning a young child into a life time fisherman. Our last few eyes of the morning were taken from 7 feet of water around fallen tornado blow downs.
Back out tomorrow for a half day trip, will keep you posted.
