Jim and Becky from Lake in the Hills, IL. booked a morning trip for themselves and their daughter Sarah on "The Rock". They are relatively new to the area and wanted to learn some of Castle Rock's lunch and dinner spots, as well as watering holes, and also danger areas to steer clear of when they get their pontoon. We started at Buckhorn and made a loop around by the dam, then over to "The Tube" at the Citgo for on-the-water gas. Stopped in front of Carlson's, and Splash, then on to Northern Bay. After that we took the ride all the way up to the Petenwell dam so they could get a glimpse of the river and how to safely navigate it. After that we headed back to the lake for a little planer board trolling. They had never seen planer used before so it was a new experience for them. We started on the east side but there was way too much floating grass and weeds that it was hard to keep the baits clean, so we picked up and headed back into Buckhorn Bay. We pulled #5 Flicker Shads, and #4 Hornets over 4-12 feet of water and finished with a mixed bag of walleye, white bass, channel cat, and flatheads. Sarah really like to catch fish and is not shy about hold them at all, as a matter of fact she held and released just about all of them except for the catfish.
