2013 Season Summary
Well here it is, our first season as new camp owners is in the books. After an excellent first season in 2013, our hearts and passion for this unbelievable business/journey is growing by the minute with anticipation for an even better 2014.
As I sit here and write my first newsletter, we want to SINCERELY THANK EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU for your friendships, camaraderie and loyalty. This is what truly makes the Andy Myers Lodge Experience what it is today. This is our life and making the time you spend here memorable, is what makes it all worthwhile, fulfilling and our dream of making 20 more years to come even better.
Before we reflect a little on our first season, we would like to take a moment to truly say THANK YOU to previous owner Steve Herbeck. Steve, your guidance, knowledge, patience and most of all your strong belief in a young couple's new chapter in life, leaves me speechless. Although you leave us with big boots to fill, we are driven and committed with a love for this business to carry on your name associated With Andy Myers Lodge. It is our honor to carry the torch for this Dynasty of a Lodge you have created . Your innate personality and contagious laugh will always be part of this camp. We look forward to another great 2014 season with you as part of the AML Pro Guide Staff and Camp Seminar Specialist to help our anglers young or old.
Steve is now free from all the time consuming responsibilities that go along with owning and operating this business, which are now myself and Nicky’s to pursue. Steve’s true passion of guiding, innovating new patterns and techniques, developing the guide staff to the highest standards, and working one on one with guests will bring the AML EXPERIENCE to an even higher level for all to truly learn and enjoy. Thanks so much again.
The 2013 season started off not only with excitement, but also a little later ice out. What would be the fun of having everything in your first year go so well without a little bit of grief from old Mother Nature. Fortunately for us, with the help of an unbelievable Staff, we had everything up and running for guests to enjoy for season opener.
As the season progressed with transition of ownership going extremely well, new guests along with repeat customers continued to make new memories, share laughs and most importantly leave Andy Myers Lodge with a great fishing/hunting experience.
We personally had the opportunity to evaluate more and more of what we want to do to with the camp in order to bring Andy Myers Lodge to a whole new level for 2014. We are excited to announce that several upgrades are being planned while still maintaining the philosophy of a true Fishing and Hunting Camp. The new outside Deck with outdoor fireplace was a hit this season, as many got to cherish the beautiful scenery with their favourite cocktail, all while listening to the crackling logs, sharing laughs and fishing stories.
To highlight some of the new changes, guests will see new 2014 Yamaha Outboard Motors which will run the whole AML fleet of boats. The Pro Staff Guide Team will be replacing 90 HP Engines with 2014 115 HP 4-storke Yamaha motors to get you to the hot spots quicker and faster. The upgrade boats will all be equipped with 2014 50 HP 4-stroke Yamaha motors. Two brand new 2014 LUND guide boats will be added to the fleet. The existing LUND guide boats are being retro fitted and refurbished with new flooring, matching black fleet colours, new Minnkota Terrova trolling motors, new seats for more dependability, comfort and allowing our guides to fish to the best of their ability.
We will be adding new decks to the cabins with a very strong possibility, weather permitting, that a new cabin will be added in spring of 2014! Also as more and more clients are choosing their travel to the lodge by Air transportation, Airport pick-ups by AML Staff will become available at prevailing rates as a new full service. Guest checking in on Saturday for A/P Packages will begin their trip with a Hot Home Cooked Meal for Check-in times prior to 4 pm.

Take advantage of our early bird booking specials.
DON’T BE AFRAID OF OPENING WEEKS, the 2014 Fishing Season Kicks off May 17th – 24th 2014. This early season time frame is some of the best fishing to be had. Whether it’s tasty Walleye, excellent cold water Lake trout, an abundance of Trophy Small Mouth Bass or big heavy Northern Pike, Eagle Lake is the Gem of all fresh water lakes when it comes to producing quantity and quality of fish no matter what weather Mother Nature throws our way. Typically Ice is off the lake 3-4 weeks prior to opening season and Steve Herbeck along with the rest of the Pro Guide Staff team here at Andy Myers Lodge will be ready to Rock n Roll to put you on your next Trophy fish. Typically weather from opening week is 55-70 degrees avg. Take Advantage of the 2 week May 2014 Special Pricing and come enjoy a fishing experience like never before while saving money at the same time. To anyone who has contemplated experiencing one of these two weeks, and fishing the shallow bays through this period, I truly believe you will see the beauty behind early spring fishing.
With the months of June, July, and August whistling in quick and blowing out fast, many anglers hit there three favourite months of all species with unbelievable success. Many of our new clients who have travelled to Canada in the past and have fished many different fisheries had acheived their personal best for the first time on Eagle Lake. More and more each year Eagle lake is becoming the hot topic of destinations to fish, because of its diverse fishery and exploding numbers of fish. It is becoming the most dynamic lake in North Western Ontario and I truly believe the best has yet to come. Weather was very co-operative this season with avg. temps in the mid 70-80’s while many weeks peaked to upper 90’s. Fishing patterns maintained consistency and fish were still aggressively feeding while fishing remained very good during the heat waves.
Guided packages at Andy Myers Lodge continued to be a guest favorite. Not hard to dispute with an AML Pro Staff guide Team consisting of Steve Herbeck, Danny Herbeck, Mike Mirreault, Darcy Orchard, Scott Munford, Scott Jaeger, Andy Bouchard and Marty Kellar leading our guest on the waters each and every morning. 4wd’s and Fly-outs also continue to be a popular choice as it seemed every day the sound of the float plane was touching down at the dock after early breakfast, or the rumble of the pick-up truck pulling the boat was leaving the parking lot as guests were setting out for another daily adventure.
We experienced yet another fierce bite in September and October of this season. With many guests targeting the early and late fall bites in search of the next Record Muskie and with our fall special pricing, it was not hard to convince guests to enjoy the beauty of fall while having a shot at a real giant. Huge Small Mouth Bass were peeling line off deep water rock bars, Walleye’s were found in abundance of trophy size and Muskies…well plenty of 50+ inch fish boated and seen. This where we see guests not only bring their favourite rods and lures, but also their rifles or shotguns of choice. Our Blast N Cast Combo was yet another success! Shooting waterfowl and grouse in the am, then heading back to cast the waters with our waiting guides by noon.
Our Trophy Deer Hunt ended our season on a high note. Although tougher than previous year,s due to a harsh winter in 2012 and amongst the growing population of wolves in our area, hunters bared some warmer than normal temperatures or fought the chilly elements, however 85% of our guests tagged their game along with a photo never to be forgotten. Our guide team worked extremely hard and pulled together with more scouting, baiting and in addition we acquired new land leases for this season and future seasons to come.
So, in keeping with the philosophy of “Don’t fix what’s not broke” our first season as new owners went extremely well. Whether employee or employer when having the passion of something you love so much, you always find ways for improvements or try and learn something every day to make it better. It is with all our hearts and love for this business as we look to the 2014 season, that we continue to meet or exceed customer satisfaction here at AML. Here, we separate ourselves from others in this wonderful industry by considering you family, not guest, and doing WHATEVER it takes to make it your trip of a lifetime. This leads us to a huge THANK YOU to what we feel is the best Staff in the business.
So to all of you, who we have not had the pleasure of meeting and were not able to make it this 2013 season, we truly look forward to meeting you all. We encourage everyone to check the dates for the 2014 sport shows in your area and please come by and say hello, talk fishing/hunting, share some laughs and let us help plan your 2014 adventure.
For some, it will be a good time to go over and finalize any requests you may have made for your bookings in 2014. We also encourage you to go to the ANDY MYERS LODGE FACE BOOK PAGE and hit “LIKE”.
