Hi everyone,
Rode with the DNR crew on Monday while they checked 10 fyke nets all on the west side. We saw a very healthy fishery of walleyes, northerns, LGM bass, SM bass, crappies and lots of different pan fish species and captured 3 musky which the biologist Max Wolter inserted pit tags into their cheeks before measuring, sexing and releasing. Biggest musky was 34.9" Biggest walleye was 24.5" with several in the slot of 20"-24" Saw some real nice bass up to 19" and fat as footballs and Max figured we captured over 50 northerns with the biggest 35". The crappies were plentiful with the majority between 9"-11". It was a beautiful day to be on the water with a clear blue sky with a gentle NW wind and warm air temps in the mid 50's. The water temps ranged between 49-52 degrees. The fish should be hungry and ready to cooperate on the opener. Good luck fishing everyone and remember the new walleye regulations now in force. A bag limit of 3, a 15" minimum size limit with 20"-24" NO KEEP slot and 1 over that. To view videos of the pit tagging the musky, visit my face book page tom walleyemaxx. I was unable to down load the videos on here.
