Saturday greeted my 2 guests and I with fairly clear sky's and light SE wind. Using Reeves weedless jigs tipped with large fatheads, we were on the walleye right from the start as we found them in 15 feet of water over submerged stumps and laid down timber. Once again a slow retrieve was needed as these eyes were holding tight to the bottom and not overly aggressive. We did manage to boat a good number of eyes from this area with 6 being good keepers before a total shutdown. It was like someone turned off the light, could not get another bite from this spot or others like it. Worked some humps and woody shorelines to no avail, we then moved to some shallow weed patches and here we found a good number of jumbo perch and some crappie as we ended up with 15 perch and 2 big crappie, all these fish were caught by vertical jigging 1/16th ounce jigs tipped with medium fatheads. After that bite slowed down, we hit some deep wood again and once again found the walleye on an afternoon bite and caught several small ones along with our last 3 keepers for the day.
Planned trip for this afternoon might not happen, severe weather in forecast. Back out tomorrow, will keep you posted.
