The trout hunt went pretty well on Sunday. We netted 5 ranging between 16 and 22-ish but lost two larger fish and a couple of upper-teen fish. The largest lost trout appeared to be in the 25-26" range and the other was around 24". We did not officially break the 23.5 mark, however. Accidental fish included a drum, 18" walleye and 2 very nice bass. We quit just before the rains came during early afternoon.

Planning to do an evening trip after school on Wednesday but haven't decided which species to chase as of yet.

Stay tuned and good luck!

Looks like trout fishing is improving. It's always been cyclical. Last summer's excessive rain helped keep river temps lower so that may have helped. Also, could this be an effect of the altered stocking schedule? They have added a fall stocking of larger fish that was missing for a few years. You seem to be targeting trout more this year. Curious why you think the uptick in catch rate for you has occurred?

I am not really sure it has gotten 'better' or if it has something to do with the newer areas we fish and a couple of new techniques we have been using? It certainly is not like it was 6-8 years ago but it probably never will be like that again. The numbers of fish are nowhere close to the good ole days but the average size may be a tad bit better, however. Having an abundance of water flowing out of the gates sure hasn't hurt anything either.
