Sorry...I haven't written in quite some time.
It's been a strange and troublesome spring all around the world. Our hearts go out to the many people affected by the Covid-19 coronavirus. We truly appreciate those of you in the health industry for standing tall during these most difficult times.
Here at Oak Haven, we have followed the advice of the nations health experts, as well as the rules of science. Our resort is open, but it's barely open. Many "touch points" around the resort are closed for 2020. This includes our lodge, which has doubled as our year round home for the last 13 years. No way we could allow 500+ people in our home/lodge this summer.
So with that, numbers are not being reported for our fishing contest like a normal year. Not even close actually.
But for now, here in early August...our Walleye leader is Miss Abby Houliston who landed a 24 1/2 incher while fishing with her Dad in May. That same week, Matt Ortiz landed our biggest Crappie so far for 2020....a sweet 14 3/4 incher.
We've had some Largemouth Bass caught, lots of Rock Bass, quite a few Pike over the 22-26 inch slot (28-30 inchers)..bluegills reported around 9 to 9 1/2 inches....and Perch in the 10-12 inch range. But most of these fish were either not photographed (and released) or filleted and not reported for our fishing contest. And for the first time in 14 summers here, I'm not down at the pavilion measuring people's fish. Counting on pictures. Haven't gotten a lot of them. To those of you that were here in 2020...do you have some pictures you can email to us? Thanks.
So our numbers are down here in 2020. But our health is good, the smiles are real....and the escape people feel when they get to go fishing is really appreciated this year. More than ever. Thanks to our guests who have been here this year and for playing it safe with us. And thank you to all of you who are pre-booking for 2021. This year created some setbacks. We REALLY need a good 2021. Call us this summer or fall and book at cabin for 2021...at 2020 rates. Being a small business, we have to project the future. Everyone - please keep an eye on our website this fall and winter, because there will be some changes in 2021. Things may never be like they were in 2019 and before. But what matters most is - that we stay safe - and enjoy some time outdoors in the coming years.
Do we have your name penciled in for 2021?
Thanks. Take care.
