Mike can finally scratch muskellunge off his bucket list as he slid the 45” gator into the net after an awesome boatside strike. We all got to watch the big female coming in hot to the boat as she engulfed the Rig Boss 7 just before the first turn of the 8. The following 6 hours of fishing proved to be very tough with zero musky activity.

We will look for some smaller fish today.....namely, bass and trout.

Stay tuned and good luck!

Thanks for the good words, Jay. He struck out with the fly the day before so he was powering thru some shoulder pain today. He earned that fish.

The water was gin clear and the sun was super bright right in her face as it flared and sucked it right in. HD TV for sure. We were looking right down her mouth hole. Top 10 boatside strikes for me (in person) ever. Fact.

You gotta love that. What you described is one of the scenarios that makes me so crazy about chasing these fish. In all the fishing that I've done over the years (including Tarpon), nothing gets my blood flowing and knees shaking like seeing that happen. Its good to hear that all that work resulted in a great fish and even greater memory.

Guys ask me all the time what a boatside strike is like or how cool is it to have them make 5-6 laps around during the 8 and stuff like that. Lately, my answer has been......musky behavior = hammerhead shark behavior. Most folks have (at least) seen shark shows or heard about them stealing grouper/tarpon at boatside. It must be nice being King Kong.
