I've been asked before to post pictures when I am marking the trail. I can't see the attraction, but was asked again today, so figured I'd try it. Not bad work with a timer....eh? Could have picked a better day visibility wise. Was not much.

So what's the ice like? I assume prettty good with the lack of snow.

Right on track. About 6"-7" around Oak. A small stretch of 4" in the current area off Flag. And 8"-10" as you get west of Flag.

I never would have guessed that you use a chainsaw to measure the new ice. Seems a little frightening to cut something with a chainsaw that could relatively come apart from underneath you. I guess that shows how naive I am with ice fishing, but I imagine it comes down to having much bigger coconuts than I.

Chain saw probably makes a nice slot for Frank's stick. You know Frank is always thinking.
They use a ditch witch to bury new electric cables thru the ice so why not a chain saw? Bet its a bitch if you knock the chain off and have to take your gloves off to putz with it.

Great pictures you have supplied us with. Did you have a fishing rod with you? Looks cold and windy on the lake. A little Phillips Snowshoe would keep you warm and toasty.

Just don't use a Ditch Witch to make a circular cut. Funny you should mention it. The chain was getting very sloppy, and could not be tightened anymore. Pretty well stretched out, and tossed it shortly after taking that picture. Had to come home for a bigger saw. Just got done ordering a new bar and chain for that one.
Snowshoe, is also known as liquid courage.

Must be time again to remind folks about the Garrison Keilor quote about losing pickup trucks trhough the Lake Woebegon ice at this time of year. Just part of the natural selection process.

Probably right after the weekend would be my guess. Still need to check the ice off the east end of Oak, and in no real rush.
