Well, I am finally heading out tomorrow in search of "Sea Kittens" as I had some last minute details to finish up on the boat. Sea Kittens is PETA's new campaign to essentially rename the word "fish" and refer to them as Sea Kittens. According to PETA "if we treated our dogs and cats in the same way we treat fish, we would be thrown into prison on charges of cruelty to animals." I am sure these links will make your eyes roll.

I am still waiting for the day of being surrounded by a bunch PETA activists in kayaks protesting my fishing activity, or being harassed at the boat landing on a Madison lake. So far so good.

Had a great outing today with 20+ bass boated between 8:30 am and 2:00 pm and then the activity shut off. My buddy boated a good 14 bass and some nice gills. Bass were ranging in the 15 to 17" size range and roughly 1/3 of them in the 14" range. The lunkers were not playing today, but not a bad way to start out the season. One pesky kayak but no PETA activity.

Anybody care to share where the bass were hitting at? I don't have a boat so I was just curious. Any action on the north shore of mendota between Captain bills and county park by chance? thanks for any info

Water temps are in the mid to high 50's. I would suggest for early bass activity is to target your smaller waters that typically have a good population of bass and early weed growth. Smaller lures were producing better than my normal regime of buzz and spinner bait to find active fish.

Also fish shallow bays on lakes the water is warmer there and plastic worms and bass jigs with plastics work well but only if you are casting onto fish
