Feel free to post any fishing questions or reports about Shawano Lake on this thread.
I will be doing the majority of my postings here once Musky season opens.

Well, the lake is slowly trying to fall into its summer patterns. If we would ever get some stable weather the fishing will really heat up! Right now the fish are really scattered. I am currently finding fish from 25fow into 2-4fow that are feeding on spawning panfish. Our best presentation is the Beast Teaser Stingers and the Beast Teaser Double #9's. I have an occasional fish on topwater. I think the pattern this year will be similar to that of last year.
Good Luck

Here is a pic of a nice fish my buddy put in the boat last week.

Sorry for the lack of reports this last week. I have been really busy fishing and working my real job, which just changed to nights. It sucks!!
Well, fishing is going really good now on Shawano for musky. Finding a lot of fish on the edges with nice green cabbage weeds, and also finding some out deep in like 25fow. Jerk baits, topwaters, and the Beast Teaser double #9's have been my bait of choice.
My dad went out the other morning to try trolling for walleyes with crawler harnesses. He was able to put 1 nice 19in eye in the boat which was released, but the perch seemed to get to the crawlers before the walleyes.
Well good luck and stay safe this holiday weekend!!

Well made it out on the water last night for a fun trip with some friends!
The muskies were hot for the first 1 1/2 hrs. We saw a lot of fish and were able to put two nice fish in the boat 36.5" and 37", along with losing a couple in between. All the fish saw and lost were in the mid to upper 30's.
We had fishing going on anything from jerkbaits to topwaters in natural colors. It seemed that the fish were holding in the 12-14fow range.
Once the sun went down and the air cooled down you couldn't buy a follow or a hit.
Good Luck!!

so take care and enjoy our outdoors here on shawano lake:)
Hi-
What do you think this latest cold front will do to the fishing Sat.?? I'm going regardless because my time out there is limited but I've been jinxed by the weather this whole season. Is Shawano Lake able to keep the musky's active even with the drastic weather changes? Thanks for any help or ideas you are willing to share.
Good luck

Labs,
I don't think this cold front will make for great fishing this weekend. Fishing never is great during a cold front. If you are on the water you always have a chance to get some fish.
If it was me I would look to be on the water the warmest parts of the day, which probably will be around 3:00p.m. or so.
If you are trying for musky I always seems to have good luck on cold fronts throwing mag. bulldawgs working them slower outside of the deep weed edges.
The saying is fish go deep during cold fronts, but I am telling you don't feel afraid to try it shallow like 4-5fow.
Good Luck! Let me know how the fishing goes.
Josh
Josh,
You were correct about the musky's being a little slow. Saw one on a sluggish follow and that was it. Drifted from deep to shallow a number of times throwing many different types of baits. It's been that kind of year for me. The saving grace was all the action from the bass and northerns. As I got shallow I switched to the "safety pin" type spinner and caught 5 nice northerns (two of which fed us on Sat night) and two 3lb bass along with multiple other misses. Lots of fun but looking for muskys. Oh well...

Labs,
Cold fronts are always a tough bite. You did good to see 1. It doesn't mean it is impossible, but sometime I think they are.
Good job on the bass and northern they can always save the day!!
Good Luck next time!!

Well, what can I say? The bite has either been really hot or nonexistent! Kinda like the weather either it is hot or cold.
This week I had some really good trips. Monday, I had two clients from central Illinios and they wanted badly to get on some skies.
Well the morning started slow, but by the end of the day we should've boated atleast 4 in which 1 was close to 48" and really fat. It was really disappointed to say the least, but all in all the clients had a blast with all the action we had.
Most of the smaller fish seem to be in the 8-10fow and the bigger ones seems to be holding anywhere from 12-15fow next to green weeds. Everthing this week has been on chartuese baits. Also had a really nice fish on the dbl#9 black and silver beast teaster. Don't be afraid to toss some topwater either, beewn having good days with them also.
Good Luck

Note: Still some openings for musky trips, but they have been booking fast the last 2 weeks....

Well the musky fishing has really been hot with this hot humid weather.
Been putting clients on some really nice fish, but just cannot get them to the boat. The past Sunday I had a client that had a chance at a really nice 50" fish. We just couldn't connect and get it to the boat, after 3 chances the fish decided it had enough.
Been fishing mostly weed edges from 8-9fow and 12-14fow. Fish have been moving and caught on dbl 10 cowgirls, beast teaser stingers and the beast teaser dbl 9's. Also clients have been getting a lot of action on topwaters (top raiders, hawg wobblers, and the frankin spitzs)
Good Luck

The fishing remains pretty consistent. Been putting fish in the boat on most trips, with many more missed opportunities.
The baits of choice seems to be the hawg wobbler, Beast Teaser DBL #9's, Beast Teaser Stingers, and Dbl Cowgirls.
I have been focusing my fishing on the deep weed edges. Most of the fish seem to be coming off of the 8-12FOW. Also have been finding some fish up shallow cruising the sand.
I attached a nice looking fish from last week!!
Good Luck!
