Since windy days seem to be the norm lately, might as well make the best of it. I took out one of our former employees, Joe Wiltzius for a mixed bag of walleyes and smallmouth bass this evening. We started out trolling the top of a steep breakline in 6 to 10 FOW. All the wind had the water stirred up, so we chose bright colored baits with rattles. We ended up landing 7 walleyes and losing 4 or 5 more. Boat control was a full time job, so we went with a bare bones set-up of only two rods, flatlining the baits a "good cast" behind the boat. Our three best baits tonight were a metallic green AJ Thunderstick (color 122 I think,) a green/orange Bomber, and a metallic watermelon Bomber.

We wanted to do some bass fishing today, too. We decided we'd stop fishing for walleyes at 7pm, and run up the Escanaba River for some smallmouth action. The bass fishing was surprisingly slow. We only managed 4 bass and a small pike between us. Actually, we ran into quite a few fish, but had a tough time keeping them hooked up on the soft plastic baits (Senko's,) that we were throwing.

Here are a few pics from tonight's trip.

Way to go guys. Sounds like the bite was pretty good yesterday. The south winds sure do turn the fish on!!!
