Lake Mendota cat fish action continues to be spotty but some success has been reported on the north end of the lake. Try using cut bait and/or nightcrawlers for the best results. Small mouth and large mouth bass have been very active in 5'-15' of water in several areas on the lake. Reports of walleye action have been few. Small pike are active all over the lake. Begin to look for white bass and crappie action to pick up in the next week as the water continues to warm.
Lake Monona shore fishermen have been having success with crappie and bluegills by the Convention Center and over in Monona Bay and the triangles. Crappies have been fairly active. Try fishing with small jigs tipped with spikes or minnows over the weeds in 5'-7' of water. The best locations to try include in front of Olin Park, Turville Point, Squaw Bay, Wyldehaven, or out from Yahara park. Large mouth bass have been active in 0'-6' of water in Squaw Bay and along many other shorelines on the lake.
Lake Wabusea blue gills have become more active in the shallow areas over any weeds in 5'-7' of water. Try fishing south of Hog Island, over by Christie's, down by Goodwin Park, or on the south end of the lake. Crappies have moved to the outside of the weed edge. Try drifting with two jigs, tipped with minnows, in 7'-10' of water. Musky fishermen have been seeing many fish follow lures to the boat, but are reluctant to bite. Start to look for bluegills to be bedding in Mud Lake soon.
