Hey guys sorry for the delay in getting a report posted but the shop has been very busy.
Water temps: 62 to 64 degree's
Lets get started with the Big Boys, the Muskies! With the weather changing all the time we have to do the same thing with our fishing tactics to have success, and thats what area Guide Ken Mack did to catch and release a nice 49 inch trophy on Lake Mohawksin, this fish fell for a Hell Hound. If you have not tried a Hell Hound yet get one! These lures a HOT!! and best of all the are very easy to use even for the beginner Muskie angler. It is a must have lure.
Jason Schrieber released a 48.5 inch Muskie below Kings Dam, this was his 2nd Muskie of the morning, WOW! We got a phone call from an angler on the water (Lake Alice) that his son just caught a 50 inch Muskie and wanted to know what they needed to get a Replica done. Good job on all these releases guys. So even with the changing weather the anglers spending time and changing there tactics the big fish are being caught.
Walleye's this week have been active late morning and then again early afternoon, the crawler bite is good. Slip bobbers and red hooks with a crawler right in the new weeds are taking nice walleyes up to 20 inches. Drifting the channel edge just before it drops into deeper water using lindy rigs with crawlers is very productive on Lake Mohawksin. Live action crankbaits worked along the gravel bars on Nokomis about a half hour before sunset is very good.
Crappies, fish the weeds with small spinners or minnows, nice catches out of Spirit Flowage and Jersey.
Bluegills are starting to come in, small window to find them as the weather pushes them back to deeperwater but they will be near there spawning grounds, so if you cannot find them in the shallows just back off to deeper water. Use waxies and small jigs or leaf worms.
Pike, a hawg of a pike out of the spirit flow. 41 inches and very heavy. Tom Andrews caught this monster on a Northland spinnerbait up near the County O bridge. All lakes are doing well on these fun to catch fish. Use anything from spinners, spoons or crankbaits. Very active.
Seeing a lot of bass in the shallows now, skirted grubs are catching big fish. Remember Catch and release only.
This Sat and Sun is the free fishing weekend, no fishing license is needed.
