Cool, cloudy and a little rain every couple days is keeping the lakes cooler then usual. LOTW Stevens Bay is upper 50's and Kakagi (Crow) Lake is just starting into the 50's.
Bass groups have been struggling with the bass action on all of the area lakes as the below normal water temps don't quite have them to spawning yet - getting close. Some of the bass groups have been working the Northerns and a few starting to learn Lake Trout.
Lake Trout started the week being caught shallow best bite was keeping the lures 5' below the surface and Saturday evening was the first boat in, finding success jigging for the trout in 70' - 40' waters with 9 Lakers in 1.5 hours of fishing. Several boats working on the trout in our bay this past week, but people are starting to get anxious for the Lake Trout jigging action.
Northern Pike really have been on a frenzy in Stevens Bay, mostly smaller sized fish being caught with the occasional 35" - 38". The weeds are progressing in Stevens Bay, so only a short while of being able to fish over the top of the weeds.
Walleyes are being caught, but not as fast as they can be and seem to be scattered with cooler then usual waters. 4 pounds was the best this past week.
Crappie bite has slowed a little on Stevens Bay with the spawn pretty much over. The Crappie will be moving out to deeper waters fairly soon.
Cedartree lake is a bit of a mess right now as they have opened up the damn from Kakagi to bring the water levels down. The high waters on Kakagi are hard on docks and many other things - heard a pontoon boat escaped a dock to get smashed up on island rocks. Some of the other resorts have had Cedartree boats go missing - presumed to be destroyed. We moved motors and chained up our boats so that if the Cedartree waters go over the transom - we will be fine when the lake levels drop back down. It is mostly day-to-day on our being able to get boats out on Cedartree.
Regards,
