A couple of guests took their 1800 Pro-V (140 HP) over the portage on Monday, June 8 and someone finally reported catching a lake trout up in Whitefish Bay. The guys trolled up a couple of fish, with one being "a nice one."

They took a few of the biggest minnows I could find in the tank and got both fish from the same spot.

The portage was in working condition when they crossed, although a lot of work for 2 strong guys.

I've never been up to Whitefish, but I have it on my list of things to do before I kick the bucket. I would love to see that crystal clear water up there.

Thanks for the report, Boys.

Okay, now I've got to bring you over the portage and take you out trolling for Lakers for a day sometime. You do need one more addiction, trust me on this.
I've gone over the portage each of the last two Springs during my May trip. We didn't get any either time but I'll figure it out. Either way, it was a great time each trip. W.F.B. is my absolute favorite area to fish Lakers through the ice. There are a lot of BIG Lakers in Whitefish. My group has gotten at least one over 30" each of the past three winters up there so I know they are in there.

Hey Eastie,

I'd be up for a day of trolling for Lakers. The guys that just went said they would take me too. I really have to get my Dad to retire so I can get away from the dock for more than a couple hours on a Saturday evening or Sunday morning during the spring and summer.

However, and everyone can hold me to this...I WILL NOT BUY ANY GEAR FOR LAKE TROUT FISHING...somewhere my muskie mentor is nodding is head and saying, "yeah, I've heard THAT before.'' HA! However, this time I mean it.

The occasional mooching of an open seat, but noooo more fishing addictions for this guy.

Goods news! I have at least one extra rod and reel that can be used to troll Lakers. The lures are inexpensive and I have an ample supply of them. If we verticle jig for them, as is done during Winter and July/August I also got you covered. However, once you latch in to a nice Laker, all of your previous vows are likely to fall by the wayside. Besides, fishing addictions are some of the few that do not eventually requitre that you attend meetings and introduce yourself to a roomful of strangers, Did I tell you I hate going to meetings?

My Wife and Mom might disagree on the fishing addictions and meetings part. They get plenty sick and tired of me talking about muskies, looking at muskie related stuff on the computer, in magazines, books, trying to justify another muskie related purchase, and planning my fall around how long I might be able to stay out on the lake before it freezes.

They may incorporate a Muskies Anonymous or some kind of support group for family members of muskie addicts.

Did i mention I did order the custom rod? This is after I finally found the "perfect muskie tackle boxes" after a 5 year search and ordered 4 so I could get a volume discount.

Bazil will be shaking his head some more and reminding me of all the protesting I did about not wanting to go muskie fishing in the beginning. That's ok though......I just won't even let him hold it if we gives me too much of a bad time. HA!

ALL I EVER WANTED TO WAS TO SEE ONE OF THOSE BIG FISH THEY TALK ABOUT "FOLLOW" IN THE WATER.

Before this all started, during a chat at the dock one day years ago, I did get a warning from former Muskies Inc International President Perry Smith (now passed away) that I should be very careful about getting hooked on Muskie fishing. I had no idea how quickly I would find out what he meant.

However...as Bazil says..there are a lot worse hobbies a person can have.

9 more sleeps til opener. :D YEE HAW!
