We have finally gotten some summer weather in Witch Bay, the temp has been over 75 for the last two days. We have also been rewarded with a great walleye and smallmouth bite. Yesterday I had 6 boats south of the narrows and jigged the eyes in 17 to 24 feet of water. They were hitting jig and minnow and jig and crawler. The biggest fish was 24 inches, and the average being 17 to 20. It was the best day of walleye fishing we have had this year. We estimated the six boats caught 300 walleyes.
Today we went back down to the narrows and jigged in the morning but did some casting to the rock points in the afternoon. We found the bass and walleyes up on the points in 3 to 8 feet of water. They were taking shad raps and rogues. We also tried some twister tails on 1/8 oz. jigs along the weed line. We took some fish but only small ones the bigger fish all came from the rocks.
The crank baits were also very effective on some large northerns 36 to 40 inches. They were also on the rock points and shallow reefs.
