What a week on Leech Lake. The FLW walleye tournament has concluded and the anglers were very impressed with the quality of the walleye fishing. The Pros caught a lot of fish, the key was to find two fish over the 26 inch slot and then 3 between 18 inches and 14 inches. Local Brian Brosdahl the ice fishing King placed 3rd and had an outstanding tournament.
The best presentation was a live bait rig(Lindy Rig) with a large chub or leech. The Pros caught fish all over the lake it was fun to watch.
I had a trip yesterday and we caught 20 slot fish from 18 to 27 inches. We also were able to catch 6 keeper fish that were in the 16 to 17 inch range. We used live bait rigs tipped with leeches or shiners. We fished mid lake structure on the big lake. Crawlers are also a good choice. I take minnows,leeches and crawlers out at this time of the year. Keep moving till you contact fish, they are usually biting somewhere.
