South Dakota Missouri River Walleye Fishing Update Lajkes Sharpe and Oahe
This will be short and sweet. Walleye fishing on Lake Oahe has slowed some with the fish getting deeper. 30 to 40 feet is now the norm. If you look there and find them the fishing is still very good with fat walleyes from 2 to 4 lbs. The bright spot on the Missouri river is Lake Sharpe near Pierre SD. We have been fishing the Westbend area to the dam at Ft Thompson . Really nice Limits are being caught by our guide boats From 13 to 30 ft of water.
Here is a tip that may help you catch more nice walleyes on Lake Sharpe . The water releases from the Oahe dam in Pierre SD have been increased to the point that we have a good current throughout the entire reservoir. This has moved the fish off of some of the traditional fishing spots that we are all use to. Look for walleyes on the down stream side of shallow water also downstream from bends in the river bank and in deeper water .Fish slower and make sure your bait is close to the bottom. The fish are still hungry you just have to fish where the are not where they should be from years past. Give us a call if you would like to take part in a great late summer fishing trip .
See you on the water
