Aug 17 report
The bite is still on for walleye but daytime is still tougher than normal. We have very unsettled weather this year and the water is way higher than normal. Everyone is marking fish but making them bite during the day is a different story. The people who are open to trying new spots and depths have generally done better than others who fish their "normal" spots. The fishing is different but right from an early ice out, warmer water temps, weather, water levels, nothing has been the same.
Our outpost lakes did very well this summer too which is a bit odd for the walleye one (in August) considering it is such a small lake and the temps would have been quite warm. It has a tendancy to slow down in August.
On the plus side, this is the best musky year we have had in a long time. The bass had a slow start too but really picked up later in July and now in August.
As for the fish and game department, they don't look at individual lakes every year but did actually study the management area we are in last summer and even did some netting on our lake. They were impressed at how the fish in this lake were so healthy and plentiful. We didn't see the official report but that just came from the guys and gals out here in the boats.
